I am not a monarchist!

I have this foto of the queen hanging above our toilet, and several people who have visited have accused me of being a monarchist, which by all means isn’t true. but there is a hint of mainstream fascination with the queen, I will admit. and not the least because it is also linked to the popularisation of britain and things british (including the union flag and minis, the brown bettys, peacoats, on and on and on) and is a mainstream brand in itself. I’m just fascinated by it. but less so after my time in london. i guess that gives me point to justify myriad other non-fashionable (to say the least) components of british culture i love, like muddy black tea with milk, marmite, soda bread, greasy sausages, OK! and the guardian’s lifestyle section. in the end, doesn’t the queen embody all of this too? in a way, such aristocracy can only exist in a country with that level of chav, right? Is it monarchy? yes? Is it fashionable? sometimes. do I love it? Mostly. compared to sophia, though, isn’t the queen smashing?
