On the ruling: One up…Keep it moving!
I woke up on the right side of the bed today. After the recent historic ruling, I am filled with good thoughts about all that’s right in the world sometimes. And out of that I feel most compelled to congratulate all my fellow queer friends and all our supporters in the US and abroad! We all made it happen. And to those people in California who believe in equality and civil rights made their voices heard, fought back against the lies of a select few, played fairly and came out on top! I have not felt so electrified and upbeat about California in about a decade! SO PROUD to be a part of it!
For all of us supporters who are of color, I would like to send out an especially big congratulations!! If your families are anything like mine, we are often still fighting our way out of established ignorance within our families about many civil rights issues, especially those mired in social stigma like same-sex relationships, while at the same time fending off the added manoeuvres of omnipresent conservative bigots, screaming and lying their irrational politics into our ears ad nauseam. So far it has worked, some even in my family are also passionately bigoted at worst, and disinterested at best. Unfortunately many people are still trapped within this stigma. But I stand up as I have always stood up, throughout the long haul, open and out and leading through living. And I stand with many people I love and am proud of because it is our responsibility to keep it all visible and stand our ground. We have to let those who are not on board know at all times that their hatred, whether deep-seated and ingrained or living within as that dissonance that charges through their body when people think differently will one day end, that they will no longer be able to live in assumed privilege, and that their lives are just as fragile, fleeting. Then they will blush shortly, shake off their hang ups and smile from within.
So here we are. The ruling has been shared. I am feeling elated but in anticipation of what it all means and where it will all go? One up…Keep it moving!
